Genealogy Research

Are you researching your family history?  If you would like some help or encouragement, you are welcome to visit the library Genealogy Group on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 7:45. Experienced researchers are on hand to help you. No computer experience required. All welcome! The group hopes to increase the number of local genealogies available in the Rockport Library. They will accept genealogical queries and look up vital records in Rockport. Send your queries to genealogy@rockportlibrary.org.

American Ancestors
In library use only. Conduct genealogical research, take online seminars, and search their online library catalog of books, 19th century newspapers, periodicals, microform materials, and manuscripts.

Ancestry.com Library Edition
Online access in the library. This link will only work on our public library computers or via our library’s wireless internet.
Includes the U.S. Census, U.S. Data Collection, UK & Ireland Collection, and Immigration Collection.

Biography in Context
Contains full-text articles from hundreds of periodicals. Search for people based on one or more personal facts such as birth and death year, nationality, ethnicity, occupation or gender, or combine criteria to create a highly-targeted custom search.

HeritageQuest
Online access in the library, and Remote access. (Remote access will require your 14-digit library card number, which can be found on the back of your Rockport library card.)
Includes the U.S. Census, Periodical Source Index (PERSI), Revolutionary War Pension Records, Freedman’s Bank Records.
