On Wednesday, there will be a community forum in collaboration with My Life My Choice at the Rockport Library from 4:00 – 5:00 PM. Doors will open at 3:30 PM. MLMC asks that participants register at the link below and they encourage all parents, members of the school systems and public officials who work with the youth on Cape Ann to attend.
My Life My Choice provides survivor-led solutions to end the commercial sexual exploitation of children. They offer a range of programs and services in Massachusetts and nationally. My Life My Choice is a model for communities across the country set on changing not only lives, but the structural inequities that give rise to trafficking and sexual exploitation.
ABOUT THE FORUM
Every day, youth are deceived, manipulated, coerced, and forced into the commercial sex industry. This multibillion dollar industry is inherently harmful and systematically targets the most vulnerable in our communities. And, it’s happening in our own backyard in Cape Ann and the North Shore.
Please join us in learning more about what is happening on Cape Ann and beyond and how we can recognize the signs and intervene in a supportive way.
PARTICIPANTS WILL:
- Learn different forms of exploitation and what puts youth at greatest risk
- Gain knowledge about demand- what is driving the commercial sex industry
- Learn red flags/indicators that a young person may be groomed or recruited
- Learn best practices in responding to disclosures as well as mandated reporting
- Learn about community resources and what you can do
Doors open at 3:30 pm. This is a free event with refreshments served.
