The idea of honoring friendship originated from Hallmark cards in the 1930’s and was seen as more of a way to bring in business initially. Officially adopted in July of 1958 as an international celebration, this day was marked to foster peace through friendship. In 2011, July 30th was declared by the General Assembly of United Nations as the International Day of Friendship.
Today is a day when we recognize the importance of friendship, kindness and see the value in bringing people together with an aim of peace.
