The library will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in recognition of the Labor Day holiday.
Initiated in the late nineteenth century, this holiday came to be when labor activists demanded an eight hour work day. In 1894 President Grover Cleveland made it a national holiday in an effort to end the railroad workers strike. Each year on the first Monday of September, we now celebrate those employed in our country and recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.
As Teddy Roosevelt said, “Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”
