Summer Reading for Children 2024

This year’s theme is “Read, Renew, Repeat” and our focus will be on environmentalism, self-care and sharing the love of reading.

SUMMER READING PRIZES

We will be using paper trackers and the Beanstack app to track reading and attendance at library programs and events, and giving away books as prizes. We are also participating in the Topsfield Fair Read and Win program.

The program is open to readers from Grades K to 6th from across eastern Massachusetts, as well as parts of Southern New Hampshire. Librarians set a goal for their readers and eligible readers who accomplish the goal by the deadline are awarded a Topsfield Fair Prize Package! Each Prize Package includes: 1 Admission Ticket (for readers 8 and over, children under 8 are admitted into the Fair free already), 1 Hot Dog and Drink Voucher that the winner can redeem once they are at the Fair, 2 Ride Tickets, and 1 “Read and Win” Ribbon.

There is a signup sheet at the children’s room desk- please provide child’s name, age and grade level next year, and either an email or phone number.

Children are asked to track days where they read at least 15 minutes. This gets them a sticker/stamp, as does attendance at a library program. For every seven stickers they can pick a free book from the book cart.

Note: the paper trackers ask for book title/author and a star rating out of five- this is OPTIONAL.

ASSIGNED READING FROM SCHOOLS

Both the Rockport Middle School and Rockport High School have provided us with lists of summer reading books- students are required to read one book from the list. The Elementary students are encouraged to read over the summer but do not have assigned books.
